Para Teqball

Guided by the belief that sport is for all, FITEQ aims to be inclusive and ensure all athletes can enjoy the world's fastest growing sport.

Therefore, on March 22, 2021 FITEQ officially launched Para teqball. In doing so, FITEQ aims to embrace and spread the values that define Parasport, notably determination, courage, inspiration, and equality.

FITEQ seeks to promote the message that everyone should have the same opportunity to access sport, whether it is playing recreationally or competing at elite level.

As part of its ongoing effort to be an inclusive International Federation, FITEQ has professionalised Para teqball to provide elite Para teqball athletes the opportunity to compete in official FITEQ events.

FITEQ wants to give everyone the chance to dream big and with the innovative and dynamic sport of Para teqball, it will be able to unveil the hidden talents of Para teqball athletes all around the world.

Para Teqball Classification

FITEQ has created a Para Teqball Classification Regulation document to provide a structure for the sport by determining which athletes are eligible to compete in elite level events.

The classification regulation means FITEQ is able to ensure parity and equal opportunity throughout Para teqball.

There are two sport classes: Para Teqball Sport Class 1 (PTBSC 1), which is for athletes permanently requiring the use of crutches, and Para Teqball Sport Class 2 (PTBSC 2), which is for athletes with a prosthesis.

Ultimately, FITEQ intends to expand on the initial Para teqball classification, so that as many people as possible can compete in elite events.

However, as a starting point, FITEQ believes that creating PTBSC 1 and PTBSC 2 will contribute to a culture of equality and inclusion at elite and grassroots levels, whereby teqball and Para teqball players can enjoy the teqball movement together.

The Para Teqball Classification Regulation can be found here.

Para Teqball Rules

The rules of Para teqball are similar to those of teqball, but there are several notable differences in both PTBSC 1 and PTBSC 2, as outlined below:

Para Teqball Sport Class 1 (PTBSC 1)

  • Players can use supporting equipment, notably crutches, during the match
  • Players can use supporting equipment as part of their serve, but otherwise the ball cannot intentionally touch the equipment during a rally
  • During the serve, the last touch of the ball has to be with a body part
  • Every touch with a body part and unintentional touches with supporting equipment is considered one of a maximum three touches
  • The ball can be touched by the same body part consecutively
  • A player can return the ball with the same body part consecutively
  • The ball is allowed to bounce on the ground once after the player has received the ball. There must be at least one touch before the ball touches the ground

Para Teqball Sport Class 2 (PTBSC 2)

  • PTBSC 2 is played by Para athletes using a prosthesis for one or both legs
  • The ball can be touched by the same body part twice consecutively, but players cannot touch the ball three times in a row with the same body part
  • A player cannot return the ball with the same body part consecutively
  • A touch with a prosthesis is considered one of a maximum three touches and the prosthesis can be used to return the ball

FITEQ has also created an inclusive doubles match, which is played by four players in pairs. Each pair must consist of one PTBSC 1/ PTBSC 2 Para teqball player and one teqball player.
