Mexico and Panama reached the semi-finals of the 2023 Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) Gold Cup after wins over Costa Rica and Qatar, respectively.

Goals from Orbelín Pineda and Érick Sánchez helped Mexico beat Costa Rica 2-0 at the AT&T Stadium, extending their unbeaten run against Costa Rica in the tournament.

The first half saw both teams create plenty of chances but finishing was not up to the mark.

The best chance of the first 45 came when Uriel Antuna started a mazy run from the right, only to run out of options in the end.

With a similar start to the second half, El Tricolor broke the deadlock when Henry Martin was brought down by Kendall Waston in the box.

Pineda stepped and made no mistake from the spot to give Mexico the lead.

The confidence from scoring meant Mexico started creating more chances, and they were rewarded in the 87th minute when Roberto Alvarado cut into the penalty area to set up Sánchez to double the lead.

A second half hat-trick from Ismael Díaz and a Édgar Yoel Bárcenas Herrera strike in the first half helped Panama crush Qatar 4-0 in Arlington, Texas.

The win helped Panama reach their first Gold Cup semi-final since 2015 with Díaz scoring the fastest hat-trick of the tournament.

Bárcenas headed a cross from Eric Davis 19 minutes into the first half, beating Qatar keeper Salah Zakaria to give them the lead.

While there were chances to go two up, Panama had to wait until the second half for that.

Adalberto Carrasquilla's defence-splitting pass found Díaz, who took a touch before banging in his first of the night in the 56th minute.

Seven minutes later, Díaz was the quickest to react for a rebound after the initial shot from Carrasquilla was saved by Orlando Mosquera.

José Fajardo was the supplier as Díaz completed his hat-trick in the 65th minute.

The CONCACAF Gold Cup continues with the second set of semi-finals featuring Guatemala against Jamaica, while defending champions the United States take on Canada.
