The Olympic bronze medallist was selected at a meeting of the National Olympic Committee of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

This year's Asian Games will run between August 18 and September 2 across the two Indonesian host cities.

The Opening Ceremony is scheduled for Jakarta's Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium.

Alizadeh is a history maker in her country after becoming the first woman from Iran to win an Olympic medal at Rio 2016, when she captured bronze in the under-57 kilograms division.

She then stepped up to the under-63kg class for last year's World Taekwondo Championships in Muju in South Korea.

She won a silver medal, losing out in the final to Ivory Coast's Ruth Gbagbi.

The 20-year-old's preparations for the Asian Games have not been ideal, however, because of a serious knee injury.

In July of last year it was announced that she had torn her anterior cruciate ligament with fears that she would be out of action for at least a year.

However, she has returned to action in time for Jakarta Palembang 2018.

The medal Alizadeh won in Muju was her second at World Championship level.

She also won bronze at under-57kg in Chelyabinsk in Russia in 2015. 

Her Olympic medal was widely reported due to its history-making nature.
