A total of 12 Iranian taekwondo players have been selected for a national university team camp as part of preparations for the Summer Universiade in Chinese Taipei.

Neda Zare has been chosen as the head coach for the camp, with Azadeh Yasayi appointed as a coach.

The event will help the Iranian university squad hone their preparations for the 2017 Universiade, which runs from August 19 to 30.

The 12 athletes all qualified for the camp after the Iranian Taekwondo Federation held a series of selective competitions.

Saeideh Vakili and Fatemeh Shabannia booked their place in the under 46 kilograms category, while Sara Fathi and Nian Shamohammadi qualified at under 49kg.

Soodabeh Poorsadeghi and Bahareh Naderkhanloo will be the representatives in the under 53kg weight class.

Mahsa Poormirzayi is the sole under 57kg participant, with Fatemeh Kolasangiani the lone representative at under 62kg.

Hanieh Akhlaghi is set to compete at under 67kg, while Fatemeh Rohani and Fatemeh Mostafayi have qualified in the under 73kg event.

Iran will be hoping to build on their strong performance in taekwondo from the last Summer Universiade, held in Gwangju in South Korea in 2015, where five of their seven gold medals came in the sport.

The nation also won a bronze medal in taekwondo at last year's Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

Kimia Alizadeh, who was third at the 2015 World Championships, claimed the last spot on the Olympic under 57kg podium alongside Egyptian Hedaya Malak with victory over Nikita Glasnovic of Sweden.

Taekwondo events at the 2017 Summer Universide in Chinese Taipei are scheduled to take place at the Taoyuan Arena B1.
