French investigators have opened an inquiry into alleged racism against French-Malian pop superstar Aya Nakamura following reports she may perform at the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics, the prosecutor's office said.

After two years of not being able to compete under the Guatemalan flag in the Olympic cycle, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has decided to provisionally lift the sanction imposed on the country's Olympic Committee. Guatemalan athletes will now be able to parade and participate in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games with their flag and official uniform.

Russia will be asked for a ceasefire during the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, which will take place from 26 July to 11 August, French President Emmanuel Macron said on Sunday "the request for a ceasefire during the Olympic Games. They (the Russians) have to do it. That's what has always happened." 

Athletes who respect IOC conditions 'welcome' in Paris, says Bach. Asked about the case of Russian athletes, IOC President Thomas Bach said on Saturday that all athletes "willing to respect the conditions" set by the International Olympic Committee would be "welcome" at the Paris Olympics.

Egypt is the clear medal leader after eight days of competition. The country has won a total of 144 medals (83 gold, 33 silver and 28 bronze) as of Saturday 16 March. Nigeria is in second place with 68 medals: 25 gold, 18 silver and 25 bronze. More than 5,000 athletes from 51 countries are competing for medals and records in 30 sports at this year's event.

The Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) will not boycott this year's Paris Olympics, its president has said. The move comes despite restrictions imposed on its athletes by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) as a result of the Kremlin's offensive in Ukraine.

The Estonian, Latvian and Lithuanian Olympic Committees have sent a joint letter to the International Olympic Committee regarding the eligibility of Russian and Belarusian athletes to participate in the Paris 2024 Games and their presence at the Opening Ceremony.

The World Athletics Council has called on the federations of Brazil, Ecuador, Peru and Portugal to tighten anti-doping controls ahead of the Paris Olympic Games, following a recommendation from the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU).

The International Olympic Committee has said its executive board will decide at its next meeting whether Russian and Belarusian athletes will be allowed to take part in the opening ceremony of the Paris Games. 

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass led a City Council delegation to Paris this week to stimulate business development and learn from innovative housing, green transportation and infrastructure projects to prepare Los Angeles ahead of the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

"The whole country wants there to be no strikes" during the Olympic Games (from 26 July to 11 August), said Civil Service Minister Stanislas Guerini on Saturday. This was two days after the CGT and FO called for strikes.

The University Sports Federation of Peru (FEDUP) has announced that Lima has been selected to host the Pan American University Games, known as the FISU America Games Lima 2026, organised by FISU America, the Pan American University Sports Organisation. 

World Aquatics has announced that Bahrain will host the first stop of the highly anticipated High Diving World Cup in 2024. The event will take place from 21-22 September.

The International Olympic Committee has no plans to sanction Israel over its war in Gaza before the Paris Olympics. "It's out of the question to think about sanctions (against Israel) at this stage," said Pierre-Olivier Beckers-Vieujan.
