September 8 - Andy Murray (pictured) failed to become the first British man for 72 years to win a Grand Slam title as Switzerland's Roger Federer beat him easily in the final of the US Open in New York tonight.

SEPTEMBER 16 - THE Lawn Tennis Association (LTA)  announced that life assurance and pensions company AEGON has a signed a five-year £25 million deal to become the first ever lead partner of British Tennis.

JUNE 24 - CLARE WOOD (pictured), Britain's former top-ranked player, has been appointed as the competition manager for the tennis at the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, it was announced today.

FEBRUARY 4 - THE Football Association have appointed Kris Dent from the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) to become its director of communications for the bid to host the 2018 World Cup.

July 5 - Laura Robson (pictured), a 14-year-old, today gave Britain's tennis fans hopes that she might be able to challenge for a gold medal at the 2012 Olympics when she pulled off a major shock to win the junior girls singles title at Wimbledon today. 

May 17 - The new retractable roof at Wimbledon's Centre Court, which will stage tennis during the 2012 Olympics, was used for the first time today in a series of matches featuring some of the sport's best known names.
