Sir_Chris_Hoy_wins_keirin_Manchester_February_19_2011February 19 - Sir Chris Hoy, unexpectedly beaten in the sprint semi-final on the first day of the Track Cycling World Cup in Manchester, returned dramatically to prime position in the keirin race, which he won clearly as all five remaining rivals crashed.

Sir Chris, who had lost out to fellow Brit Jason Kenny the night before, looked in great form early on as he adopted his new tactics of overpowering his competitors with two laps to go.

As he crossed the line with arms raised in joy, unbeknownst to him his fellow competitors went to ground after a mass collision before dragging their bikes and themselves over the line.

In the women's sprint, Victoria Pendleton had to settle for a bronze medal with long-time rival Anna Meares taking the gold after a thrilling final saw her overcome China's Shuang Guo.

The women's sprint field is showing increasing strength in depth en route to London 2012, with Becky James and Jess Varnish also making the last eight.

Lizzie Armitstead was in action during the Women's Omnium, but it was clear she is still some way her best form having just recovered from illness. Laura Trott was also involved in a frantic scratch race, but was unable to gain the moves she needed.

Ben Swift finished a respectable sixth in the Points Race as the action in the Men's Omnium continued into Day Two.
