IOC Executive Board proposes Salt Lake City - Utah 2034 for election. SLC-UT 2034

Following a recommendation from the Commission on Future Olympic Winter Games Host Cities, the Executive Board of the IOC has proposed that Salt Lake City - Utah 2034 (SLC-UT 2034) be put up for election at the IOC Session in Paris on 22-24 July. It also proposed the French Alps for the 2030 Winter Games.

"This is a milestone day for our Utah communities, our athletes and our country. We deeply appreciate the IOC's support and confidence, and we look forward to our final presentation and vote in Paris," said SLC-UT 2034 President and CEO Fraser Bullock.

The Future Host Commission, led by Karl Stoss, travelled to Utah in mid-April. Its members visited each venue and had the opportunity to engage with the community and athletes. Based on this visit and additional research, the Commission provided positive feedback.

"The new election process with the IOC has been very productive in allowing us to engage in a dialogue that will help us work in close partnership to not only deliver a great Games, but to use the platform to deliver long-term benefits to our communities through sport," added Bullock.

"Today marks a wonderful milestone for Salt Lake City and the State of Utah in their efforts to bring the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games back to the US," said Sarah Hirshland, CEO of the USOPC. "The Salt Lake City-Utah Committee has a clear vision for the Games, for winter sports and for the Utah community. It's great to see it recognised by the IOC - and we thank the Future Host Commission and the Executive Board," she added.

In considering SLC-UT 2034, the IOC cited the opportunity to extend the transformative benefits of the 2002 Utah Winter Games to a new generation, to leverage the state's resources and experience for the benefit of the Olympic and Paralympic Movement, and to take full advantage of a unique compact Games concept.

The IOC also noted the alignment of SLC-UT 2034 with the IOC's Olympic Agenda 2020 and 2020+5 with regional socio-economic development plans, particularly in terms of sustainability and creating long-term benefits for the region and potentially the country.

SLC-UT 2034 officials will also make a technical presentation to IOC members on 26 June in the lead-up to the expected vote in Paris on 24 July. At the IOC session, a delegation of USOPC and SLC-UT 2034 officials, including Utah Governor Spencer Cox, Salt Lake City Mayor Erin Mendenhall and USOPC leadership, will make a formal presentation to the IOC.
