The GAMMA European Championships came to a close in Slovakia with the Senior Finals in the High Tatras, marking the end of a week of MMA competition that also saw excellent performances from the Under-18s. In the senior category the glory went to Poland.

The week of top European MMA in Slovakia culminated in a well-organised event by the Slovak MMA Association (SOMMA). On Sunday, the Striking MMA Finals and the MMA Finals under Amateur MMA rules took place.

The medal and prize-giving ceremony saw an early surprise in the form of Germany's Lorena Cubero in the 61.2kg category. She had defeated Natalie Trikalova earlier in the day, but when they met again in the afternoon, the Czech triumphed by unanimous decision. The 2022 European silver medallist and 2021 World bronze medallist Natalie Trikalova thus took the honours in her neighbouring country.

Cristian Constantinov (MDA), the king of yesterday's impressive K-O, went the distance with two-time GAMMA champion Iwo Baraniewski (POL) but lost by unanimous decision in the 120.2 kg category.

This wasn't the only exciting fight in the -83.9 kg category. The charismatic Nika Bregvadze (GEO) lost to Adam Jakubik (CZE) after an energetic back and forth that saw the Czech fighter take a split decision victory.

Unfortunately, a post-fight medical suspension meant that Bregvadze's afternoon MMA bout, where his ground game was expected to be in his favour, was cancelled and Maciej Strzelecki (POL) took the gold medal by walkover.

In the other MMA categories, European Striking MMA runner-up Denis Malikov (AZE) took gold by split decision, 2022 European bronze medallist Pawel Grzeszczak (POL) secured a first-round submission victory and 2023 World silver medallist Daniele Scagliusi (ITA) won by unanimous decision.

In striking MMA, 2021 World bronze medallist David Velíšek (CZE) failed to make the judges' scorecards in the 77.1kg category, and Adam Neupauer (SVK) was retired from the competition, handing the 61.2kg title to his compatriot Martin Koky (SVK).

Poland topped the senior gold medal table. Moldova came second, followed by Germany, while the Czech Republic won the most medals overall with fifteen.

The combined results of the U-18 and senior categories put Ukraine at the top of the overall medals table, as the nation excelled in both gold and total medals. Poland, which had won a significant number of gold medals, came second in the total gold medal count. The Czech Republic was third in terms of gold medals, but second in terms of total medals.
