The Froch-Groves rivalry has become iconic. The 31st of May marks a decade since their mythical fight. A fight that brought 80,000 people to Wembley. Froch won in the ninth round. The referee stopped the fight when Groves hit the canvas. The decision was premature for the boxer and controversy ensued. 

There have always been rivalries in world of boxing. In their day, Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfield had theirs. Today, the rivalry between Tyson Fury and Usyk is huge. So much so that one of them could unify the heavyweight belt after 25 years. The one between Froch and Groves was a spectacle. They are both Englishmen.

They will return to London on 22 May to relive the day and everything that has surrounded their sporting and personal relationship. George Groves has invited Carl Froch to the inaugural live event of the George Groves Boxing Club.

Taking place on Wednesday 22 May 2024 at the iconic O2 Shepherd's Bush Empire in London, the event promises to reignite one of boxing's most memorable rivalries in a unique and entertaining format.

Their 2014 showdown at Wembley Stadium ended in a knockout victory for Froch, marking his triumphant retirement from boxing. It was a rematch, as their first fight was in 2013, when Froch held titles and Groves was chasing his first world title. 

The rivalry fuelled anticipation among fans. Despite Groves' early dominance, Froch turned the tide in the ninth round. The referee made a decision that Groves still believes was premature. 

During the meeting, a podcast will be recorded in which the two promise to tell stories about how they used to hate each other, how they used to get under each other's skin and how Carl finally knocked George out in the middle of the ring. 

This time there will be no gloves. It will be the first episode, the special podcast episode "Froch-Groves III". Tension, respect and details that will allow fans to enjoy what they did not see.

"It has been a decade since Carl and I stepped into the ring together. What better way to commemorate this momentous occasion than to relive it with our fans," commented George Groves. "This event isn't just about reliving the past, it's about celebrating the enduring spirit of competition and camaraderie in boxing.

George Groves and Carl Froch will be joined on stage by Dec Taylor, co-host of the George Groves Boxing Club podcast. They will reminisce about their stormy relationship both in and out of the ring. From their fierce exchanges to the unforgettable knockout that sealed their fate, no stone will be left unturned in this candid and engaging discussion.

"This isn't just another podcast episode, it's a chance for fans to be part of history in the making. We invite everyone to be part of this electrifying event where memories are made and perhaps scores are settled," added Dec.

There will be surprises, special guests and an unexpected ending with a touch of George Groves' revenge. "We're not just looking back, we're looking forward. This is my podcast, this is my club and on the 22nd of May I want to show Carl Froch and the world that the rivalry is alive and kicking," said Groves.

The rivalry between these two boxers goes back a long way. Froch defeated Groves in their first meeting on 23 November 2013 at the Manchester Arena. It was billed as the Battle of Britain. WBA (regular) and IBF unified super middleweight titleholder Froch defeated George Groves via ninth round technical knockout, although the finish was controversial.

Froch had previously defended his IBF super-middleweight title against WBA (regular) champion Mikkel Kessler. His victory allowed him to unify the titles and become a double world champion. Froch had several options for his next defence. One was to seek a new fight with Kessler, the third. 

The second was a resounding success. The other option was a rematch with Andre Ward, who had already beaten Froch. George Groves had won three fights in 2013, including a win on the undercard of Froch-Kessler II. In June, the WBA ranked him number two in the super middleweight division and the IBF made him a mandatory challenger. 

It was then that the rivalry between him and Froch exploded. Groves had been Kessler's sparring partner in preparation for the Froch fight. Froch saw it as a betrayal between countrymen. However, Groves said it had served him well to learn from training with such an experienced boxer.
