Egypt is within reach of being the first country to achieve 100 golds in just one African Games. No one has ever done it before. The North African country has two competition days remaining to achieve this milestone. Currently, Egypt has 94 golds only just six behind the mark.

From the first week, Egypt was already showing that its athletes were in good form. No matter what sport it was, Bassem Amin at chess demonstrated its superiority or at the swimming pool where only South Africa could rival them.

Egypt has 13 potential gold medals remaining across various disciplines, including men’s Handball, Taekwondo with Salma Khaled, and men’s Javelin Throw with Moustafa Abdel and Ihab Abdelrahman. If Egypt wins as many gold medals as it can, it will reach 107 golds in the 2023 Accra African Games.

No one has ever won 100 gold medals in the history of the African Games, specifically, no one achieved the figure of 90 golds. Egypt has achieved this three times. Nigeria came the closest with 85 in 2003 Abuja, Nigeria, and South Africa the next with 71 in 1999 Johannesburg, South Africa.

The biggest star of Egypt is the swimmer Marwan Elkamash, who has broken all the records with five gold medals at Accra 2023: 200m, 400m, 800m, 1.500m and 4x200m freestyle. Farida Osman, one of Africa's most important swimmers, follows with four gold medals: The 50m and 100m butterfly, the 50m freestyle and the women's 4x100m freestyle relay.

Egypt has been dominant in the African Games since the inaugural event in 1965 in Brazzaville, Republic of the Congo. The North African country has been at the top of the medal table in 8 out of the 13 editions. This year their participation could be the most historic one.
