Kumari was part of India's women's team trap squad that took silver in yesterday's final, finishing on 337 behind only China who set a world record score of 357.

Singh, who is currently serving as Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) Acting President, was present at the final but in line with his status as one of India's top sporting officials, it took a lot of organisation.

He is not able to travel without a handful of security guards convoying with him and he needed to gain permission to go to the shooting range for the competition.

"I have to inform them six hours in advance," Singh, a former International Olympic Committee member, told S Kannan.

"This is as per protocol."

Before the Games, Singh had spoken of his happiness that his daughter would be competing in China.

"Yes, it is a proud moment," he said, as reported by Millennium Post.

"A legacy being carried ahead.

"There are great memories from the rich past of me shooting the Olympics and the Asian Games.

"To be part of it for so many decades is emotional."

Singh became the first Indian shooter to win a gold medal at the Asian Games when he triumphed at Bangkok 1978.

India amassed 22 medals of all colours in the shooting events at Hangzhou 2022, including seven golds.

After strong performances at the World Championships and Asian Games, Kumari is expected to make the Indian team competing at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games from July 26 to August 11 next year, although an official announcement has not been made as of yet.

In the men's trap, there was also family history on show as Kynan Chenai, winner of two medals, comes from a family of shooters with his father Darius being a former national champion.

A final family connection came through Zorawar Singh Sandhu, the oldest member of the Indian delegation at 46.

His father HS Sandhu was also a shotgun shooter and introduced him to the sport. 

Singh is an experienced sports administrator and has worked with the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), Sports Authority of India, World Anti-Doping Agency, and Association of National Olympic Committees.

He was appointed OCA Acting President in September 2021 after Sheikh Ahmed Al-Fahad Al-Ahmed Al-Sabah of Kuwait stepped aside as President following a guilty verdict against him by a Geneva Court in a forgery case.

In July, he was asked to resume the role after the IOC refused to recognise the election of Sheikh Ahmad's younger brother Sheikh Talal Fahad Al Ahmad Al Sabah as President.

Prior to that, he had served as the organisation's secretary general from 1991 to 2015.

His father, Bhalindra, was a member of the IOC from 1947 to 1992, two-time President of the IOA and is said to have been crucial in bringing the 1982 Asian Games to Delhi.
