Germany won the 2023 International Equestrian Federation (FEI) Jumping Nations Cup Final at the Real Club de Polo in Barcelona with a two-fence advantage.

France grabbed silver followed by Belgium standing on the final podium spot with Brazil and the United States finishing fourth and fifth, respectively.

The Germans battled the fourteen-fence track designed by Spaniard Santiago Varela, clocking a total time of 246.49sec.

However, it was far from an ideal start for the winners as Jana Wargers riding on Dorette ran into trouble at fence 11.

However, Christian Kukuk and Checker 47 timed 80.89 - lowest of all four - to get things back on track.

Hans-Dieter Dreher and Elysium continued the momentum before Richard Vogel United Touch S. completed the proceedings.

"I’m a lucky guy as Chef d’Equipe of this team, I’m super happy and super proud of them, they rode very well," said German Chef d’Equipe Otto Becker.

France posted a combined time of 249.74 with Olivier Perreau and GL Events Doral D’Aiguilly coming up with the only clear run.

The other combinations - Simon Delestre and I Amelusina R 51, Francois Xavier Boudant and Brazyl du Mezel, and Julien Epaillard and Dubai du Cedre - picked up eight faults in total.

Bit it was good enough to oust Belgium, who produced 251.25 also with eight faults.

Koen Vereecke and Lector VD Bisschop clocked 82.99 to start the run for the Belgians followed by Niels Bruynseels and Delux van T&L, Wilm Vermeir and IQ Van het Steentje and Gregory Wathelet and Bond Jamesbond de Hay.

After an error-prone performance from Pedro Veniss and Nimrod de Muze Z and Stephan de Freitas Barcha and Chevaux Primavera Imperio Egipcio, Brazil had Luciana Diniz to thank for their fourth-place finish.

Riding on Vertigo du Desert, Diniz came up with a clear round for Brazil that helped them qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

With Germany, France and Belgium already sealing their Olympic fortunes for next year, it was down to Brazil and USA to make use of the opportunity in Spain.

Devin Ryan riding on Eddie Blue had eight errors and the pairing of McLain Ward and Callas and Karl Cook and Kalinka van’t Zorgvliet with one each led to the Americans finished with nine overall.

This means that the Unted States will have to make necessary adjustments to do better at the next Olympic qualification battle at the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games.

"It’s 18 years since I last rode for Brazil and this was my first show after nearly a two years break," Diniz said.

"To be in the official team of Brazil in the final of the Nations Cup and to have to qualify for the Olympic Games was so much pressure in a way, but I was just so grateful to be here and now we have this amazing result!"
