More than 200 artistic swimmers from 30 countries participated in the event held at the Hellenic Army Academy in Athens in Greece.

Japan’s two titles came in team events, with their first coming in the mixed team free event, after they scored highly with their Combo routine and finished on 242.4022 points.

Hosts Greece claimed their first ever medal at a Youth Artistic Swimming World Championships with a silver as they finished with 229.7063 points.

Bronze went to Spain, performing a routine to the Led Zeppelin song Stairway To Heaven, with 228.4660.

In the team free final there was more gold for Japan as they took the title with a clock-themed routine with a score of 299.2097 points.

Spain claimed silver with 288.3943 points, with the United States completing the podium with 282.2878.

The highlight for the host nation came in the women’s duet free final, as Estella Karamanidou and Vasiliki Thanou took the title with 262.3942 points, performing to the routine What’s Behind Through The Door?

Japan took silver with a score of 261.5703 points, thanks to a flawless display from Shirahase, winning her second medal of the event, alongside Manami Dodo.

The US took bronze as Field won a second medal of the event alongside Ghizal Akbar, with the pair finishing on a score of 260.8923 points.

In the men’s solo free Filippo Pelati of Italy perfectly executed his routine to the song Fallin as he claimed gold with a score of 250.5167.

Silver went to Shuncheng Yang of China, who was unable to execute his declared difficulty to his routine as he finished with a score of 236.4360.

Michael Chan of the United States took bronze after only achieving part of his difficulty to his routine, as he ended with 227.9338.

Yang won a second medal of the day in the mixed duet free, as he teamed up with 14-year-old Heyue Ji to perform a routine to the soundtrack of the film Army of Thieves, with the pair finishing on 243.1085 to win gold.

Silver went to Spanish duo Helena Lopez Castrillo and Eneko Sanchez Aguilar who finished on a total of 234.4902.

Performing a tango routine, Abigail Gallon and Michael Chan won bronze for the United States as they finished on 223.0461.

In the women’s solo free final Romane Temessek of France took gold with 261.6123 with a perfectly executed routine entitled Feeling Good.

Kanako Field of the United States took silver with 249.5852 points, with bronze going to Nao Shirahase of Japan with 247.4656.

 Japan finished top of the overall medal table for the Championships, which were open to athletes aged between 13 and 15, with a total of two golds, one silver and one bronze.
