Turkey edged out Ukraine to top the medals table at the Artistic Gymnastics World Challenge Cup in Mersin thanks to a double gold display from Ahmet Önder.

The 2019 World Championships runner-up prevailed in the horizontal bar with a score of 14.100 to push the hosts to a tally of three gold, three silver, and two bronze medals.

He was joined on the podium by Croatian Tin Srbic and Krisztián Balazs of Hungary at the Tüm Sporcuları Tebrik Ederiz.

The result put Turkey level on golds with Ukraine but one more silver gave the hosts the advantage.

The previous discipline saw Önder's compatriot Sevgi Seda Kayışoğlu lead a Turkish one-two with Bengisu Yıldız in the women's floor exercise with a score of 13.000.

Slovenian Lucija Hribar then made up the top three with a performance worthy of the bronze medal.

Önder also tasted success in the men's floor exercise as he pipped Cameron Lynn of Britain to top spot by 0.200 with 13.800 points.

Benedek Tomcsanyi then sealed one of four Hungarian bronzes from the World Cup leg as he came third.

The first Ukrainian title went the way of Oleg Verniaiev as he was victorious in the men's parallel bars on 15.000 ahead of countryman Nazar Chepurnyi and Önder with 14.750 respectively.

Anna Lashchevska picked up two victories for her country as she stood atop the women's balance beam and uneven bars podiums with 14.900 and 13.533 points respectively.

The World Cup circuit is set to return on Friday (September 8) in Szombathely in Hungary for a three-day competition.
