Argentina have ended Brazil's dominance of the South American Volleyball Confederation (CSV) men's South American Championship by winning the tournament for the first time since 1964.

Argentina were unbeaten throughout the competition held in Recife in Brazil. 

They clinched the title with a straight sets 25-19, 29-27, 25-22 victory over Brazil in the last match of the round-robin series.

Argentina had opened the tournament with a 25-16, 25-15, 25-22 victory over Colombia.

They went on to beat Chile 25-19, 25-20, 25-15.

The only time they dropped a single set was against Peru but they still won 25-16, 20-25, 25-9, 25-18.

Brazil had previously been the dominant force in the championship winning 33 of the previous 34 competitions - a sequence which dated back to 1967.

Argentina had finished as the top South American nation at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics when they beat Brazil in the bronze-medal match.

Argentina, silver medallists Brazil and bronze-medal winners Colombia all qualify for the the 2025 International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) World Championships. 

Brazil had won the South American Women's Championship last week.
