Dutch rider Sanne Thijssen thrilled the home fans with her victory at the Global Champions Tour Grand Prix of Valkenswaard to seal her place at the Super Grand Prix in Prague.

Competing on board Con Quidam RB, Thijssen produced a brilliant performance as she erased the memory of her second-place finish two years ago.

Thijssen went clear in the opening round before looking supreme in the jump-off, clocking 38.10sec.

Sweden's world number one Henrik von Eckermann, riding Glamour Girl, finished quicker than Thijssen but picked up four faults after knocking down the penultimate fence.

Max Kühner of Austria was set to challenge Thijssen for the title as he went on the attack on board Up Too Jacco Blue but fell short of the home favourite, posting a time of 38.84.

Third place went to reigning Olympic jumping champion Ben Maher who finished in 39.33 on board Dallas Vegas Batilly as Thijssen was crowned champion.

"[Con Quidam RB] is almost impossible to describe," said Thijssen in a report by Horse Network.

"He is from another planet.

"Frederik [de Backer] said already ’he’s an alien’.

"In round one, we had a little miscommunication to the double.

"Sometimes he is so motivated he wants to take over the control, which makes it very difficult for me to ride him, and I thought it’s not possible to get out of that double…and somehow he did it and that’s what I think is so special about him."

The next stage of equestrian's Global Champions Tour is set to be held in Rome, Italy from September 15 to 17.
