China claimed four of a possible six gold medals on the final day of wushu competition at the International University Sports Federation (FISU) Summer World University Games in Chengdu.

The results saw the host nation solidify its first-place status in the sport's standings with 11 titles compared to runner-up Indonesia's four from the 20 on offer.

Li Zhiqin triumphed first today for the Chinese at Chengbei Gymnasium as she got the better off Turkey's Berna Tut in an event postponed twice due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

"I gave myself nine points out of 10 today," Li, judging herself after the confident display in the women's under-60-kilogram final, said.

Semi-final losers Mohana Rahimi of Iran and Kazakhstan's Aigerim Torekhanova joined them on the podium.

Ma Yigu then clinched the next gold for China following a similarly dominant win against Indonesia's Bintang Guitara in the men's under-60-km final.

Iran and Kazakhstan were once again represented on the podium by bronze medallists Shoja Panahigelehkolaei and Bexultan Koskenov, respectively.

Iran then made it to two consecutive finals in the men's under-70kg and under-80kg tournaments but Hamidreza Sahandi and Ali Khorshidirabe both suffered defeats.

China's He Feng and Liu Wenlong cruised to the gold medals as they both secured 2-0 wins.

"I was confident that I would get this gold, as I prepared a lot for the final," said He, who is also set to compete at the re-arranged 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou later this year.

Indonesia's Tharisa Dea Florentina and Laksmana Pandu Pratama won the remaining two golds of the day in the women's under-52kg and men's under-52kg categories.

Competition is set to continue tomorrow with 24 gold medals set to be won, including the final two taekwondo titles at the Wangjiang Campus Gymnasium.

In addition to dominating the wushu standings, China has built a substantial lead in the overall medals table after day seven with 49 golds compare to next best South Korea on 16.
