In the men's and women's team kata, Japan were the defending Asian and world champions and retained their titles at the Melaka International Trade Centre Ayer Keroh Sports Hall.

Koji Arimoto, Kazumasa Moto and Ryuji Moto notched 44.6 for Japan in the final, beating the 44.0 scored by Kuwait.

Bronze medals went to Vietnam and Iran.

In the women's final Sae Taira, Saori Ishibashi and Misaki Yabumoto triumphed with a score of 43.1, with Vietnam forced to settle for silver with 41.8.

Hosts Malaysia took a women's team kata bronze along with Indonesia.

Men's team kumite gold went to defending champions Iran, beating Kazakhstan 3-0 in the final.

Saleh Abazari, Mehdi Ashouri, Saman Edalati, Amir Hossein Fadakar, Mehdi Khodabakhshi, Mahmoud Nemati and Mehdi Shahgol all earned team golds.

However, Iran were on the end of a 2-0 defeat to Vietnam in the women's team kumite final.

The Vietnamese team was comprised of Đinh Thị Hương, Hoàng Thị Mỹ Tâm, Nguyễn Thị Ngoan and Văng Thị Ngọc Mỹ.

Team kumite bronze medals went to Kuwait and Jordan in the men's event, and China and Chinese Taipei in the women's.

Japan's double kata success moved them up to second on the medals table with three golds, three silvers and two bronzes from the AKF Senior Championships.

However, they could not overhaul Kazakhstan, who also finished with three golds and one more silver than Japan.

Iran placed third with three golds, two silvers and seven bronzes.

Karate is on the programme at this year's delayed Asian Games in the Chinese city of Hangzhou, due to take place from September 23 to October 8.
