Chile topped the medal table at the South American Table Tennis Championships in Lima as they scooped four gold medals.

Nicolás Burgos won the men's singles title at the VIDENA complex in Peru's capital, coming back from 3-1 behind to beat Brazil's Guilherme Teodoro 4-3 in the final.

Daniela Ortega won three golds for Chile, including the women's doubles as she partnered Paulina Vega to a 3-1 win over team-mates Judith Morales and Zhiying Zeng.

Ortega had earlier claimed the mixed doubles title with Gustavo Gómez, thanks to a 3-0 win over Brazil's Teodoro and Giulia Takahashi.

In the women's team event, Ortega, Vega, Morales and Zeng took gold over Brazil with a 3-1 victory.

Brazil collected the other three gold medals available, including the women's singles title for Takahashi after her 4-0 win over Zeng.

Carlos Ishida and Rafael Turrini won the men's doubles final 3-1, seeing off Chile's Burgos and Gómez.

The Brazilians then edged Chile 3-2 in the men's team final, securing gold for Teodoro, Ishida, Turrini and Eric Jouti.

A total of 59 players competed at the event in all, from nine countries.

Quota places were on offer for this year's Pan American Games in Santiago, and the Pan American Championships.
