Amina Orfi's dream run at the Professional Squash Association World Championships has come to an end at the hands of world number three Hania El Hammamy in the third round in Chicago.

At 15 years and 10 months old, the Egyptian became the youngest player ever to reach that stage of the tournament.

It  was a step too far as her compatriot came away with a 3-2 victory at Union Station.

El Hammamy was in cruise control as she went 2-0 up 11-5, 11-5, but Orfi pulled two games back of her own to send it to a deciding fifth.

The 22-year-old managed to regain her composure and finish off the match with an 11-9 scoreline.

"I'm not happy with the way I played after being 2-0 up," said El Hammamy.

"I've been a youngster myself, so I knew the excitement and courage that Amina would play with.

"She's the world junior champion, she's still only 15 and look how well she is playing now.

"I'm sure we'll have some real battles in the future.

"I'm not thinking about it [the World Championship title], I'm just trying to bring my A game in the upcoming rounds."

There was more Egyptian success in the women's tournament as first seed Nouran Gohar dispatched Belgian Tinne Gilis 3-0 and Nour El Tayeb also whitewashed the United States' Sabrina Sobhy.

Sobhy's sister, Amanda, fared differently and managed to beat an Egyptian in the form of Salma Hany 3-0.

There were no surprises in the men's tournament as all the favourites progressed.

Top seed Mostafa Asal of Egypt prevailed in a gruelling 85-minute battle with Welshman Joel Makin to secure his place in the quarter-finals.

Commonwealth Games silver medallist Makin won the pair's most recent battle earlier this year but could not repeat the feat as he fell to a 3-1 defeat.

The only match in both the men's and women's events saw Birmingham 2022 champion Paul Coll of New Zealand blitz Colombia's Miguel Rodriguez.

The 30-year-old took 59 minutes to seal the 11-8, 11-5, 13-11 triumph.

"I was very happy with the way I was seeing the ball, the way I played on there, and how I physically felt," Coll said.

"It's my favourite court and I’m looking forward to getting on it again in a couple of days' time and hopefully have another good result."

Other fixtures saw Mazen Hesham down Aly Abou Eleinen 3-1 in an all-Egyptian clash while their countryman Ali Farag got the better off Englishman Nathan Lake by the same result.

Play is set to continue tomorrow with the remaining round three fixtures.
