French prosecutors have launched an investigation into allegations of rape made against Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and Moroccan World Cup star Achraf Hakimi.

He has been accused by a woman after an alleged assault last Saturday (February 25).

Hakimi was reported to have made contact with the woman through social media platform Instagram in January and subsequently to have invited her to his home in Boulogne-Billancourt where sexual intercourse is alleged to have taken place without the women's consent.

It is claimed that the incident took place whilst Hakimi’s wife and children were away.

According to police sources, a 24-year-old woman reported the incident police station in Nogent-sur-Marne in Val-de-Marne.

It has been reported that she did not file charges but the Créteil public prosecutor's office are understood to have begun a preliminary investigation.

The case was then transferred to the Nanterre prosecutors office in the department of Hautes de Seine, which serves Boulogne-Billancourt where the incident is alleged to have taken place.

Prosecutors have already complained that "information already published" in Le Parisien newspaper "undermines the investigations necessary for the manifestation of the truth".

Hakimi played for Morocco at the 2022 FIFA World Cup and scored the decisive penalty in a shootout victory over Spain in the Round of 16.

He was named in the International Association of Professional Footballers (FIFPRO) Men’s World team for 2022 and received his award from FIFA general secretary Fatma Samoura at the FIFPRO Awards Ceremony in Paris last night.

He had not taken part in his club's 3-0 victory over Olympique Marseille on Sunday (February 26) because of a thigh injury.

Hakimi was born in Spain, but he elected to represent Morocco.

He had been attached to Real Madrid as a young player and made nine appearances in La Liga before joining German Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund on loan.

Hakimi later moved to Inter Milan where he spent a season before joining PSG in 2021.
