Weston made it back-to-back World Cup wins on the Altenberg bobsleigh, luge, and skeleton track, and in the process became the first Briton to be crowned European champion in men's skeleton since 2008.

He was quickest on the first run with a time of 57.15sec, and followed it with a 57.01 to produce a total of 1min 54.16sec.

Olympic champion Christopher Grotheer of Germany ranked second on both of his runs with times of 57.52 and 56.99, meaning he was 0.35 adrift of Weston.

Another German in Beijing 2022 silver medallist Axel Jungk placed third in 1:54.54, following up a 57.67 first attempt with a 56.87 on the second that was the quickest run of the day.

American Austin Florian earned his best IBSF World Cup finish of fourth in 1:54.86, with Britain's Marcus Wyatt fifth in 1:55.01.

Grotheer leads the overall standings with 1,264 points, followed by Wyatt with 1,169 and Weston with 1,155.

World Cup leader Hermann also made it back-to-back wins in Altenberg, and the four-time individual world champion took a European Championships gold for the first time.

Hermann dominated the competition, clocking the quickest time on both runs with 58.34 and 58.18 to finish in 1:56.52.

Her margin of victory was 0.62 over Austria's Janine Flock - she notched times of 58.51 and 58.63 to finish with 1:57.14 overall.

Susanne Kreher of Germany took World Cup and European bronze, finishing a further 0.01 back with times of 58.57 and 58.58.

Canada's Mirela Rahneva missed out on the podium by just 0.01.

Reigning European champion and Olympic bronze medallist Kimberley Bos of The Netherlands finished fifth in the World Cup and fourth in the European Championships in 1:58.81.

Hermann leads the World Cup standings with 1,253 points, followed by Rahneva with 1,147 and Bos with 1,145.

Women's monobob and two-man bobsleigh World Cup and European Championships events are set to be held tomorrow.
