Accra 2023 Local Organising Committee (LOC) chairman Ofosu Asare has expressed concerns over the readiness of venues for the African Games.

Among the venues, the construction of the Borteyman Sports Complex appears to be in the starting phase, according to a report on JoyNews.

Asare hoped that the Government would release funds on time to complete the venues.

"That’s the hope of the LOC members and the Minister," Asare was quoted as saying by JoyNews.

"I am sure every Ghanaian is expecting us to finish and be able to host the Games.

"We are looking for a way to get the needed funding for getting the job done.

"The funding comes from the Government.

"The Government of Ghana has received the expected $750 million (£615 million/€697 million) loan from Afrexim Bank.

"We are to have 140 million from that going towards infrastructure

"In my view, if we don’t get the money on time, we cannot meet the timelines and if we cannot do that, it is going to affect the time schedule for the Games."

Ghana is facing a massive economic crisis and the loan from Afrexim Bank was approved inJuly last year.

But that is not going to solve the problem facing the West African nation.

Recently, it managed to secure a $3 billion (£2.4 billion/€2.7 billion) bailout with the International Monetary Fund.

The Borteyman Sports Complex is expected to host 11 sports during the 2023 African Games.

Ghana was awarded the Games in 2018 and is scheduled to be held from August 4 to 19.
