Bhutan Taekwondo Federation (BTF) secretary general Yonten Tharchen has been presented with a Lifetime Service Award by the Bhutan Olympic Committee (BOC).

Tharchen was presented with a medal by BOC counterpart Sonam Karma Tshering.

The BTF secretary general is also a civil servant and the honour recognises Tsa-Wa-Sum - a Bhutanese ideal of serving the larger interest of the nation and its people - as well as service to the Government.

Tharchen has been credited with helping to develop multiple sports in Bhutan, not just taekwondo.

The BTF has been a World Taekwondo member since 1985.

The BOC has sent athletes to each of the last 10 Summer Olympic Games.

They have mainly been archers, but the country has also been represented in judo, swimming and shooting.

Two taekwondo players have represented Bhutan at the Youth Olympics - Chimi Wangmo in 2010 and Tshering Yangchen in 2018.
