Frida Svensson, Sweden's former women's single sculls champion, has been re-elected as chair of the World Rowing Athletes' Commission.

Svensson, 41, won the world title in 2010, inflicting a rare defeating upon Ekaterina Karsten of Belarus and adding to the world bronze she had earned four years earlier.

Following elections to appoint the members of the Athletes’ Commission, the outgoing and new members met for the first time during the 2022 World Rowing Joint Commissions Meeting in London last month and voted for the position of Athletes' Commission chair.

The decision to appoint Svensson has now been ratified by the World Rowing Council.

Svensson will serve as chair for a four-year term until December 31 2026 and will also sit on the World Rowing Executive Committee and Council with full voting rights.

The Swede was chair before the latest round of elections.

Also on the panel are Belgian Niels Van Zandweghe, Spaniard Esther Briz, Benjamin Pritchard from Britain, Mindaugas Griskonis of Lithuania, New Zealand's Tokyo 2020 Olympic gold medallist Emma Twigg, Australia's Luke Letcher, Iranian Nazanin Malaei, Poland's Julia Michalska-Plotkowiak and American Robin Prendes.
