A record number of 47 nations competed for titles at the latest edition of the World Savate Assaut and Canne de Combat Championships as two new events debuted in San Donato Milanese in Lombardy.

France were one of the top-performing nations, claiming the majority of the titles in the savate assaut and canne categories.

A total of 23 other countries picked up medals.

The long-awaited Wheelchair Canne Championship, which involves participants competing under slightly modified rules, was one of the competitions to debut after delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The mixed team in canne de combat was the other tournament to be inaugurally held.

It consisted of teams of three, which must include both male and female athletes, contesting each other over six rounds.

Each round saw the fighters matched against a different opponent.

Feedback from the public and National Federations suggests these events could attract greater participation in the future.

The International Savate Federation also hosted its Elective General Assembly, with Julie Gabriel of Britain being re-elected as President and Hamid Reza Hesaraki of Iran assuming the role of secretary general.
