Stewart Anderson and Alison Merrien have won the mixed pairs title at the inaugural World Bowls Indoor Championships in Bristol - beating a duo which included Anderson's wife in the final.

Scotland's Anderson and Merrien from Guernsey were paired together as the respective men's and women's singles champions as recognised by the International Indoor Bowls Council.

They beat Irish duo Lara Reaney and Gary Kelly 10-1, 14-3 in the semi-finals at Bristol Indoor Bowling Club, before a final showdown with Scottish duo Claire Anderson and Mike Stepney.

Merrien and Anderson fell behind, but rebounded to claim a 7-8, 8-6, 1-0 win and the title.

It was a super day for Stewart Anderson, who could meet Stepney in the men's singles final tomorrow.

Anderson beat Thailand's Wattana Kadkhunthod and Welshman Robert Chisholm to advance to the solo semi-finals.

England's Andy Walters awaits in the last four, while Stepney is up against Jason Evans from South Africa.

Stpeney beat Kelly in the last 16, then Canadian Hirendra Bhartu in the quarter-finals.

Ireland's Sandra Bailie and Gloria Ha of Hong Kong have set up a final-four match in the women's singles, with the winner to play either Amy Williams of Wales or Scot Julie Forrest in the final.
