Adidas has unveiled the kit British athletes will wear at the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics and Paralympics, with designs incorporating insulation made from recycled ocean plastic.

PrimaLoft insulation x Parley Ocean Plastic, a high-performance insulation created from plastic waste collected at coastal communities and shorelines, features in pieces including the hooded podium jacket.

The material is composed of 100 per cent recycled fibre and the manufacturer claims it is also fast-drying, durable and breathable.

Adidas said the kit has been designed to show a "contemporary representation of the Union flag with a colour blocking design that represents boldness and celebration".

Navy blue is the principle colour for much of the apparel.

Items in the new collection include a podium hooded jacket made from 40 per cent Parley Ocean Plastic, a podium mid-layer jacket which is claimed to shed microfibers at a lower rate than traditional fleeces and therefore be more eco-friendly, and a village shoe.

British Olympic Association chief executive Andy Anson hailed the "iconic look" which has been created for British athletes.

"Following the success of the Summer Games in Tokyo, it's extremely exciting to be back supporting our winter athletes as they head to Beijing," Anson said.

"Whilst the journey hasn’t always been easy, our athletes have demonstrated incredible determination and we are working hard to give them their best chance to succeed in China.

"Adidas continues to be a fantastic partner of Team GB and once again have come up with an iconic look which our athletes can wear with pride as they represent their country."

British Paralympic Association chief executive Mike Sharrock added that it was a "special day" when Para athletes could see the clothes they will put on at Beijing 2022.

"I know our athletes, who have shown such resilience to continue their preparations, feel a huge amount of pride when they wear their kit, and we can’t wait to see them sporting it in Beijing as they strive to inspire the nation once again," Sharrock said.

The Winter Olympic Opening Ceremony is on February 4 and the Games are due to finish on February 20, while the Winter Paralympics are scheduled between March 4 and 13.
