Preparations for next month's World Archery Para Championships in Dubai are progressing on schedule, the Organising Committee has insisted.

Competition is due to be held at the Dubai Club for People of Determination between February 19 and 27.

Thani Juma Barregad, chairman of the Organising Committee, led a meeting where plans were reviewed, including precautionary measures set to be implemented during the event.

The World Championships had been due to take place in 2021, but the COVID-19 pandemic forced a postponement until this year.

Barregard is convinced that everything is in order for the World Championships to move forward.

"We hope to add another feather in Dubai's cap with the success of this important event," Barregard said.

"Preparations are taking place as planned and the working committees are working tirelessly as a team to make this a success.

"We will be ready to showcase another great event."

The competition so far has 226 confirmed participants from 41 countries, one more than the 40 countries represented at the Beijing 2017 World Championships - the last edition of the event.

Majid Rashed, executive director of the Dubai Club for People of Determination and manager of the event, cited the venue's hosting of the Fazza Para Archery World Ranking Tournament as a reason for optimism.

"The successes achieved by the Dubai Club for People of Determination in hosting several tournaments in the past gave a positive impression to the International Federations and we are confident to provide a safe environment to everyone taking part in these championships," Rashed, who is also Asian Paralympic Committee President, said.

"With the world’s best Para archers in fray, I am sure the championships will witness some great action."

Competition in eight different categories is on the agenda in Dubai.
