The first day of action took place today at the World Archery Youth Championships in Wrocław in Poland, with the opening round of the men's junior recurve competition proving the highlight.

With the qualification round taking place in all categories, the men's junior recurve was the only one to feature a knockout round on the opening day between the lower seeds in the event.

As the top qualifier, Britain's James Woodgate is through to the third round of the event after scoring a total of 678.

Russian Buianto Osorov was second on 673 and Spain's Yun Sanchez was third on 670.

In the women's equivalent event, Japan's Waka Sonoda and Melodie Richard of France topped the standings with 664, with Mao Watanabe of Japan finishing third on 659.

American Cole Frederick scored 702 to top men's junior compound qualification.

Danish archer Mathias Fullerton and Mexican Sebastian Garcia also scored 702, but scored less on target and instead finished joint second.

Dafne Quintero of Mexico was six clear on 694 in the women's junior compound, with her team mate Mariana Bernal finishing second.

Meeri-Marita Paas of Estonia finished third on 687.

American Sawyer Sullivan was dominant in the men's cadet compound category, winning by eight with a total of 713.

Abdullah Aslim of Turkey and Indian Kushal Dalal scored 705 to complete the top three.

Priya Gurjar of India scored 696 in the women's cadet compound to top qualification, in front of Hazal Burun of Turkey and Parneet Kaur of India on 691 and 689 respectively.

Russian Bair Torgubaev scored 668, finishing first in the men's cadet recurve qualifying, with Frenchman Iban Bariteaud in second on 667 and India's Bishal Changmai in third on 661.

Finally, Caroline Lopez of France finished far ahead of the rest of the field in the women's cadet recurve on 662.

Ceren Kocur of Turkey scored 653 for second with India's Tamnna third on 650.
