The 20-year-old Mexican scored 680 in the 72-arrow, 70 metres ranking round and also led her team to a continental record of 1,988 points, bettering the previous mark by two points.

"I didn't realise it was a continental record," Vazquez, who won silver at the World Youth Championships in 2019, told World Archery.

"I was just concentrating on getting a good score.

"When they told me it felt very good, and my team all embraced me.

"I have no words.

"There's faces, expressions and emotions, but no words.

"We had our team confidence before this, but this just reinforces it.

"We did in competition what we have already done in training."

Mexico, however, still finished the women's team event 14 points behind India, who enjoyed a day of exceptional qualification success at the Sports Complex Los Arcos in an event delayed by a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Ankita Bhakat and Deepika Kumari placed second and third respectively behind Vazquez in the women's category with scores of 673 and 671.

Atanu Das scored 680 to finish second in the men's qualification behind reigning champion Brady Ellison of the United States, who scored 694, with third seeding going to Florian Unruh of Germany on 679.

India also placed third in the men's team event and second in the mixed team event.

More than 18 months have passed since the most recent Archery World Cup event, the final in 2019, took place in Moscow.

"Maybe because everyone is hungry, that's why it’s a good day for us," Das said.

"It's been a while since I play international tournaments because of COVID-19, so it's a very good tournament, very good weather, and I enjoyed it."

Casey Kaufhold of the US and Germany's Lisa Unruh, the Rio 2016 silver medallist, were just outside the top three in women's qualifying with scores of 668.

Women's compound qualification was topped by the world number four, Paige Pearce of the US, with a national record score of 707 out of a possible 720 points.

Colombia's Alejandra Usquiano earned the second seed position with 704, while world number one Alexis Ruiz joined team-mate Pearce in the top three with 702.

Reigning champion Sara Lopez of Colombia could only manage 11th place on 692.

Reigning men's World Cup champion Mike Schloesser topped the seeding after a 717-point qualification, with the Dutchman shooting a perfect first 36 arrows.

Braden Gellenthien of the US was second on 711, with Seb Peineau of France and Antonio Hidalgo of Mexico scoring 710.
