The International Blind Sports Federation (IBSA) has reported that last year's IBSA World Powerlifting and Bench Press Championships were a "great success".

Action took place between November 15 and 22 in Giza in Egypt, with 75 athletes representing 10 countries.

Giza then also hosted the inaugural edition of the IBSA African Powerlifting and Bench Press Championships.

The governing body has praised the outcome of both events.

"The IBSA Powerlifting Committee is delighted to report on the success of the 2019 IBSA World Powerlifting and Bench Press Championships and first ever IBSA African Powerlifting and Bench Press Championships in Giza, Egypt, at the end of November," a statement said.

"Competition began after a spectacular Opening Ceremony in the ballroom at the Cataracts Pyramid Resort Hotel, including speeches by the President of the Egyptian National Paralympic Committee, a representative of the Ministry for Sports, Dr Ahmed Owin, President of the Egyptian Blind Sports Federation and Nezam Dodel, chair of the IBSA Powerlifting Committee."

Ukraine were the dominant force at the World Championships, winning all four team titles for men's and women's powerlifting and bench press.

Hosts Egypt were declared as the winners of the same four events at the African competition.

IBSA also hosted coaching and refereeing seminars alongside the Championships.
