The Botswana National Olympic Committee (BNOC) have announced that they have increased their preparations for the upcoming Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast.

BNOC chief executive Tuelo Serufho has said that some athletes will train in various camps around the world whilst others will remain in Botswana as preparations for the Games intensify.

Serufho also confirmed that the provisional team for the Games had been taken for a medical check-up in the South African city of Pretoria.

"The reason we did that was because we had noted from the past that one of the reasons we may have failed to achieve our set target, was that athletes had not always been in tip-top shape in so far as medical or health is concerned," he said, according to All Africa.

The chief executive also said that his organisation was sticking to its medal target of eight at the Commonwealth Games, which he also believes is the first milestone in their quest to prepare a team to represent the country at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.

Botswana won a single medal at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, a gold for runner Nijel Amos in the men's 400 metres.

The Commonwealth Games are scheduled to take place in Gold Coast, Australia, from April 4 to 15.
