Ireland's Sam Bennett recovered from a disappointing performance yesterday to win the fifth and penultimate stage of the Tour of Turkey.

Bora-Hansgrohe's Bennett had won the first three stages of the event but his dream run concluded yesterday.

He endured a miserable day and finished second to last at 14 min 59sec adrift to drop out of general classification contention.

Bennett showed his sprinting prowess once again today to win the 180 kilometres stage from Selçuk to İzmir and claim his 10th success of the season.

"Four stage wins [are] amazing,"Bennett told Eurosport.

"I’m really, really happy.

"Great again to get the win and hopefully we can try something again tomorrow."

Yesterday's stage winner Diego Ulissi, who rides for UAE Team Emirates, maintained the overall lead with a 12-second advantage over Denmark's Jesper Hansen of Astana.

Ulissi finished safely in the chasing pack today.

Tomorrow's final stage is due  see riders travel across 143.7km, including through the streets of Istanbul.

The Tour of Turkey has been included in the International Cycling Union World Tour for the first time this year, but will struggle to hold its place unless more top teams compete.

Only four World Tour teams - Astana Pro Team, Bora-Hansgrohe, Trek-Segafredo and UAE Team Emirates - are present.
