Great Britain’s Rachel Atherton secured an 11the International Cycling Union (UCI) Mountain Bike Downhill World Cup victory in a row on a day when compatriot Danny Hart triumphed in the men’s event in Swiss village Lenzerheide.

Atherton, who rides for Trek Factory Racing, clocked a time of 3min 33.859sec to finish 0.707 seconds ahead of fellow Briton Tahnee Seagrave of Transition Factory Racing and extend her winning run which stretches back to June 2015.

She has won the five World Cup races this year to add to six successive victories to end last season.

France’s Myriam Nicole of Commencal Vallnord marked her first race back following an early-season injury by coming third in 3:39.569.

With 1,220 points to her name, the 28-year-old Atherton leads the overall standings with Britain’s Manon Carpenter of Madison Saracen second with 825 and Seagrave third with 765.


In the men’s downhill, MS Mondraker Team’s Hart claimed the first UCI World Cup victory of his career, beating American series leader Aaron Gwin of The YT Mob by 0.096 seconds with a time of 3:05.710.

Last year’s winner Greg Minnaar of Santa Cruz Syndicate took third with the South African clocking 3:07.327.

Gwin tops the overall standings with 976 points followed by Hart with 768 and then Australia’s Troy Brosnan of Specialized Racing with 765.

The next leg of the UCI Mountain Bike Downhill World Cup is scheduled to take place on August 6 in Canadian ski resort Mont-Saint-Anne.
