The Brazilian Paralympic Committee (CPB) has announced that the country's legendary Formula One driver Ayrton Senna has been appointed to the posthumous role of "memoriam ambassador".

Senna, a former three-times Formula One world champion, was tragically killed in 1994 after an accident at the San Marino Grand Prix but was honoured in next year's Olympics and Paralymics host Rio de Janeiro during a ceremony on Copacabana Beach.

Former football star Romario, two-times Formula One world champion Emerson Fittipaldi and judo Olympic medalist Flavio Canto are among Brazilian figures who are already serving as ambassadors.

The Paralympic Ambassadors Programme aims to draw more attention to the Paralympic Movement in Brazil through the presence of the group in events as well as social media activities.
