London 2012_rowing_in_front_of_grandstandsAugust 22 - Eton Dorney will host the second leg of the 2013 Samsung World Rowing Cup after the venue was praised for staging the best regatta in the history of the Olympics.

The Eton Dorney Regatta Course last staged a World Cup in 2005 and then went on to host the 2006 World Championships and 2011 World Junior Championships.

It will stage next year's event from June 21 to June 23 when British rowers will expect to figure prominently having finished top at London 2012 with a total of nine medals, including four gold.

"After the success of the London 2012 Olympic Regatta and the incredible support for our sport shown by the British public, we are very pleased to return to Eton Dorney for the second regatta of the 2013 Samsung World Rowing Cup series," said International Rowing Federation (FISA) President Denis Oswald.

"We share the objective of British Rowing and the UK Government to ensure a sporting legacy from those Games and are confident that the substantial investment in Eton Dorney's infrastructure and race organisation will be of tremendous benefit to future World Rowing regattas."

Oswald was the chairman of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Coordination Commission that oversaw London's preparations and was overjoyed with the success of the rowing at the Games.

The official Olympic customer satisfaction survey of all London 2012 sites consistently rated Eton Dorney as the top venue peaking at a 97 per cent approval rating.

"Rowing is very popular in Great Britain and we knew that the interest would be strong, and it was," added Oswald.

"The regatta went smoothly for athletes, organisers and supporters."

FISA also confirmed that British Rowing would have the option of hosting the World Cup again in 2015.

British Rowing chairman Di Ellis admitted that the crowds during the Olympics had exceeded expectations and she hopes that the World Cup event will enjoy a similar level of support.

"Hosting a World Cup in 2013 at Eton Dorney will give rowing the perfect opportunity to rekindle the magical atmosphere we enjoyed at the Olympic Games," she said.

The first stage of the 2013 Samsung World Rowing Cup will be staged in Sydney, Australia from March 22 to 24 and will conclude in Lucerne on July 12 to 14.
