Following that was a tense 21-18 triumph over Italy who advanced nonetheless by finishing third in the group.

In Pool B, it was Australia who reached the summit after downing Egypt 22-11.

They almost fell out of a quarter-final place however as Germany downed them 21-19, but a superior points ratio worked in Australia's favour.

Austria, Japan, Czech Republic, France, Israel, and Spain will also feature in the knockout rounds which are due to begin tomorrow at the Rathausplatz.
