The nation topped the podium in both the men’s and women’s 10 kilometres events, as well as the final mixed 4x1500 metres race.

The women’s 10km race went to Leonie Beck, who was part of the German line-up that won team open water gold at last year’s World Championships in Budapest, Hungary.

Beck was victorious at Soma Bay in a time of 2 hours 4mins 4.60secs, as despite being 18^th at the 2,000 metres marker, she worked her way through the field to take the title.

Rio 2016 10km open water champion Sharon Van Rouwendaal of the Netherlands took second place with 2:04.07, with the podium completed by reigning Olympic champion Ana Marcela Cunha of Brazil in 2:04.11.

In the men’s race, the Olympic 10km open water champion Florian Wellbrock ensured more success for Germany as he claimed victory in 1:52.53.20.

In a photo finish Wellbrock outsprinted Marc-Antoine Olivier, who took second 0.010sec adrift of his rival in 1:52.53.30.   

The podium was completed by Logan Fontaine of France in 1:52.55.0.

Wellbrock was part of the Germany quartet that took gold in the final race of the World Cup event, as they won in 1:02.50.10.

Alongside him on the podium were Jeannette Spiwoks, Celine Rieder and Oliver Klemet, who completed the German team.

France took second place courtesy of their team of Aurelie Muller, Lara Grangeon De Villele and the silver and bronze medallists in the men’s individual event in Olivier and Fontaine, who finished in 1:03.48.50.

Egypt’s line-up of Nadine Karim, Mohamed Moselhy, Lamees Elsokkary and Youssef Magdy completed the podium in 1:08.45.60.  

The next meeting of the World Aquatics Open Water Swimming World Cup circuit is due to be held at Golfo Aranci in Italy on May 20 and 21.
