The country ensured they led with one gold, three silvers and a bronze medal at the shooting range of the Egypt International Olympic City.

The total meant they beat China's one gold and one bronze while a sole gold for India, Portugal, and the Czech Republic saw them share third place.

Gabriele Rossetti took Italy's all-important gold medal early on in the World Cup as he prevailed in the men's skeet event.

The Rio 2016 Olympic champion was in sensational form as he scored 39 points, missing the target just once.

"It's simply amazing to achieve two gold medals in two competitions separated by a few weeks," Rossetti said.

"This one in Cairo wasn't an easy competition.

"It was very hard but target by target and day after day, I managed to win.

"I worked very hard for this."

He was joined on the podium by compatriot and silver medallist Elia Sdruccioli.

Sdruccioli went head-to-head with him in the elimination final but fell just short on 38.

Argentine Federico Gil was first to go out as he only managed 14 points from the first round before Denmark's Jesper Hansen had to settle for third place with a score of 26.

Italy fell just short of a second gold medal as Simona Scocchetti was two points shy of the 35 achieved by Chinese winner Jiang Yiting.

Germany's Nadine Messerschmidt won bronze with 23 points while Ukrainian Iryna Malovichko dropped out on 16.

The final skeet gold went the way of India as Mairaj Ahmad Khan and Ganemat Sekhon cruised past Luis Gallardo and Gabriela Rodriguez of Mexico 6-0.

Italy's second silver in Cairo came in the discipline courtesy of Schocchetti and Rossetti who downed Ukraine's Mikola Milchev and Iryna Malovichko.

The trap events followed the skeet with the women's competition scheduled first.

Portugal's Maria Coelho de Barros led the way on 30 points to secure gold ahead of Chinese Taipei's Lin Yi Chun and Wang Xiaojing of China who won silver and bronze, respectively.

Jiri Liptak of the Czech Republic took the men's win, dropping just one shot, with 32 points over Italy's Massimo Fabbrizi.

Fabbrizi had a shaky start, missing twice, before hitting the target 20 consecutive times.

However, another double miss in the penultimate round effectively ended his chances of gold.

Australian James Willett was unlucky not to qualify for the final shoot-off and settled for bronze on 23.

He was even with Fabbrizi at the end of the round but the Italian advanced as Willett had recorded the most recent miss.

The next ISSF World Cup event is set to take place in Azerbaijan's capital Baku from May 8 to 15 with rifle and pistol competitions.

The shotgun discipline returns in Almaty in Kazakhstan with the World Cup from May 20 to 29.
