Cory Thiesse and Korey Dropkin were required to win a qualification game 8-6 against Scotland's Olympic champion Jennifer Dodds and silver medallist Bruce Mouat to set up a semi-final against the Group A winners Canada, represented by Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics gold medallist Jennifer Jones and Brent Laing.

Thiesse got her last stone of the fifth end inside Canada's three counters to take a 3-2 lead, and the US did not look back with a single steal in the sixth and a steal of two in the seventh.

Canada ran out of stones in the eighth, and the US advanced to the final 6-2 at the Gangneung Curling Centre in the South Korean city.

The other semi-final featured Japan and Norway, for whom Martine Rønning and Mathias Brænden overcame Estonia's Marie Kaldvee and Harri Lill 8-5 in a qualification game.

Norway led 4-3 after six ends of their semi-final, but Chiaki Matsumura and Yasumasa Tanida earned one point apiece in the final two ends, including via an umpire's measure in the eighth, to triumph 5-4 for Japan.

In the relegation playoff games, Czech Republic's Julie Zelingrová and Vít Chabičovský beat Germany's Pia-Lisa Schöll and Klaudius Harsch 5-3 to seal an automatic place in next season's World Championship, and South Korea's Kim Ji-yoon and Jeong Byeong-jin beat Austria's Hannah Augustin and Martin Reichel 8-6 to do likewise.

Germany and Austria are required to go through the World Mixed Doubles Qualification Event.

Canada and Norway are set to meet for bronze tomorrow, followed by the final between the US and Japan.
