Brazil’s Vania Moraes da Cruz was the star turn as the Teqball Tour returned to the United States after one-month hiatus.

She played a part in earning her nation victory in two of the three International Teqball Federation competitions on South Beach in Miami in Florida, and Brazil also secured bronze in the third in an event involving  82 athletes from 19 countries.

There was a particular resonance to the opening victory of Moraes Da Cruz and partner Ester Viana Mendes in the women’s doubles as their opponents in the final were the American duo who beat them in their last meeting in the year’s first US tournament in Los Angeles - Margaret Osmundson, world-ranked third, and current women’s singles title holder Carolyn Greco, world-ranked fourth.

After winning the first set 12-7, the Brazilian pair called a timeout at 10-11 down and then won the next two points to secure victory.

"Despite our win, the wind bothered us a lot," Moraes Da Cruz said.

"Miami is a beautiful place to compete and we are glad that we struck back and finally beat the American pair."

Amélie Julian of France and Gabriella Kota of Hungary won the bronze medal in the singles.

Moraes da Cruz quickly returned to the table as she and her partner Leonardo Lindoso de Almeida faced Julian and her French compatriot Hugo Rabeux in the mixed doubles final.

After losing the first set 21-11 the French pair recovered to draw level by winning the second 12-8, but the Brazilian team won the deciding set 12-6.

Bronze went to the US team of Osmundson and Luka Pilic.

Romania’s men’s singles world champion Apor Gyorgydeak and his compatriot Szaboly Ilyes were dominant in the men’s doubles, reaching the final without losing a set.

But new pairing, Frarnce's Hugo Rabeux, and his Hungarian team-mate Barna Kovacsfi ultimately proved their superiors, winning the first set 12-10, losing the second by one point, but re-grouping to take the decider 12-7.

"It is hard to describe how happy we are for winning this tournament,” said Rabeux and Kovacsfi in a joint statement.

“This is our first event together and we got what we came here for.

“A huge thank you to everyone who supported us!"

Bronze went to Brazil’s team of Lindoso de Almeida and Santana.

The next Teqball event is due to be held in Los Angeles from May 19 to 21.
