Turkey topped the medals table as the European Wrestling Championships ended at the Arena Zagreb today.

Grapplers from Turkey finished first with 17 medals overall – six gold, three silver and 8 bronze.

Azerbaijan and Armenia finished second and third with 14 - five gold, six silver and three bronze - and five - four gold and one bronze - medals, respectively.

On the final day, world champion Burhan Akbudak helped Tukey to the summit by defeating Ukrainian Yaroslav Filchakov 3-3 by VPO1 in the men's Greco-Roman 82 kilograms final.

Hosts Croatia got their only medal of the event thanks to Filip Sacic who defeated Mihail Bradu of Moldova.

The other 82kg bronze went to German Roland Schwarz who got the better of Rafig Huseynov of Azerbaijan.

The 60kg Greco-Roman final saw Edmond Armen Nazaryan of Bulgaria emerge victorious against Moldova’s Victor Ciobanu.

The 21-year-old World Championships silver medallist got his second continental gold with a 13-0 scoreline.

Serbian Georgii Tibilov and Azerbaijan’s Nihat Zahid Mammadli settled for bronze.

Azerbaijan got their first gold of the day thanks to Hasrat Jafarov who defeated Georgian Joni Khetsuriani 3-2 by VPO1 in the 67kg Greco-Roman final.

Norway’s Haavard Joergensen and Ukrainian Parviz Nasibov got the two bronze medals.

The final day saw Azerbaijan win another gold medal.

This time, Ulvi Ganizade registered a 7-7 by VPO1 in the 72kg Greco-Roman final against Frenchman Ibrahim Mahmoud hamed Hassan Ghanem.

Turkey and Poland won the bronze medals in the category thanks to Selçuk Can and Kamil Aleksander Czarmecki, who defeated Andrii Kulyk and Ali Feizollah Arsalan of Serbia.

In the 97kg Greco-Roman category, Armenia got their fourth gold medal of the tournament.

Three-time Olympic medallist Artur Aleksanyan eased past Bulgarian Kiril Milenov Milov 5-1 by VPO1.

The weight class also saw Artur Omarov of the Czech Republic and Serbian Mihail Kajaia settle for bronze.

Omarov defeated two-time World Championships medallist Roberti Kobliashvili Kobliashvili of Georgia 1-1 by VPO1.

Kajaia, a two-time World Championships bronze medallist, won by the same scoreline against  Italian two-time European medal winner Nikoloz Kakhelashvili.
