Ukraine suffered on the fourth day of competition at the European Wrestling Championships as they experienced defeat in three of the five women's finals at the Arena Zagreb.

The first bout of the day in the Croatian capital saw Ukraine's Oksana Livach fall to a 9-4 defeat at the hands of Azerbaijan's Mariya Stadnik in the under-50-kilograms decider.

It was no means an upset as heavily favoured Stadnik clinched the ninth European title of her career.

The pair were joined on the podium by bronze medallists Emanuela Liuzzi of Italy and Turkey's Evin Demirhan who beat Miglena Selishka of Bulgaria and Pole Anna Lukasiak, respectively.

In 2020, Anastasia Nichita became the first Moldovan to win a senior European title and she won gold again in the under-59kg final.

Ukraine's Yuliia Tkach was unlucky as she was forced to retire after picking up an injury, gifting Nichita victory.

Othelie Høie of Norway got the better of Turk Eda Tekin by a 6-4 scoreline to clinch the first bronze before Germany's Sandra Paruszewski emulated her with a triumph against Azeri Alyona Kolesnik.

The third Ukrainian silver came courtesy of Alla Belinska who was trounced by Bulgarian Yuliana Yaneva 10-3 in the under-68kg.

Nesrin Bas of Turkey benefitted from an injury to Czech opponent Adela Hanzlickova to win bronze alongside Frenchwoman Koumba Larroque who beat Slovakian Szuzsanna Molnar.

Turkey's Yasemin Adar sealed her sixth European title after snatching the result against Austrian world bronze medallist Martina Kuenz.

France's Cynthia Vescan and Romanian Catalina Axente made do with joint third-place finishes in the under-76kg competition.

The under-55kg gold went the way of Romanian Andreea Ana after she cruised past Hungarian Erika Bognar 8-0.

Poland's Katarzyna Krawczyk pummelled Elnura Mammadova of Azerbaijan for bronze while France's Tatiana Debien defeated Annika Wendle of Germany to join her on the podium.

Competition is set to continue tomorrow with the five remaining women's weight class finals.
