Singaporean sailing sensation Max Maeder was crowned overall winner of the Princess Sofia Mallorca Trophy in the Bay of Palma.

The 16-year-old won 10 of the 17 rounds including the decisive final race in the men's Formula Kite to be crowned the star of the event.

Connor Bainbridge of Britain was second in the discipline, and France's Axel Mazella third.

British sailors won four of the events on the first stop of this year's Sailing World Cup Series.

Michael Beckett defended his International Laser Class Association (ILCA) 7 title in Spain, winning two of his races en route to finishing with 44 net points to the 72 of New Zealand's George Gautrey and 73 of Croatia's two-time Olympic silver medallist Tonči Stipanović.

Samuel Sills of Britain won the men's iQFoil final to take gold ahead of Germany's Sebastian Kördel, and his compatriot Emma Wilson was victorious in the women's final for the windsurfing class.

Tokyo 2020 silver medallists John Gimson and Anna Burnet were the other winners in the Nacra 17, edging out Italy's Vittorio Bissaro and Maelle Frascari in second and their compatriots Gianluigi Ugolini and Maria Giubilei in third.

Italian Olympic champions and last year's winners Ruggero Tita and Caterina Banti had to settle for fourth.

No other nation won more than one gold.

The Netherlands' three-time Olympic medallist and four-time world champion Marit Bouwmeester triumphed in the ILCA 6 over Australia's Zoe Thomson and fellow Dutch sailor Maxime Jonker.

France's Lauriane Nolot claimed eight race victories in the women's Formula Kite including the final to take gold.

Back-to-back Olympic champions Martine Grael and Kahena Kunze of Brazil proved too strong in the 49erFX class to force last year's winners Odile van Aanholt and Annette Duetz to settle for second.

New Zealand's Logan Dunning Beck and Oscar Gunn beat Australia's Tom Burton and Max Paul by nine points at the top of the 49er standings, and Japan's Keiju Okada and Miho Yoshioka were the other winners in the 470 mixed.

The next event in the Sailing World Cup Series is set to be the Semaine Olympique Francaise de Voile in Hyères in France from April 22 to 29.
