Olympic champion Lasha Bekauri was first to triumph in what was a guaranteed gold for Georgia as he faced compatriot Luka Maisuradze in the men's under-90-kilograms final.

The noise reached incredible levels at the Olympic Sports Palace in the capital for the final, which was won in the regulation four minutes.

Bekauri scored the opening waza-ari with a fantastic obi-tori-gaeshi that sent Maisuradze flying over him.

European champion Maisuradze was then unable to summon a point of his own and was forced to settle for silver while repechage winners Goki Tajima of Japan and Cuba's Ivan Morales Silva also made the podium in joint-third.

Almada Grand Prix winner Ilia Sulamanidze then doubled the Georgian tally by the same scoreline in the men's under-100kg.

He scored an early waza-ari courtesy of an o-uchi-gari to pip Mongolian Gonchigsuren Batkhuyag to victory.

Batkhuyag came close to an ippon towards the end of the bout but a disjointed landing ultimately cost him.

Canadian Shady Elnahas benefited from three penalties disqualifying Kazakhstan's Nurlykhan Sharkhan to take the first bronze medal before Brazil's Rafael Buzacarini joined him.

The final bout of the event put a huge amount of pressure on Gela Zaalishvili but it only spurred him on towards a fifth career Grand Slam title.

The 23-year-old met Turkey's Munir Ertug in the men's over-100kg decider which went down to the wire.

Zaalishvili eventually found the breakthrough with 30 seconds remaining as he drove Ertug back for a vital waza-ari which produced a huge roar from the spectators.

In the women's events, Anna-Maria Wagner of Germany defeated Italian Alice Bellandi in the under-78kg category after a tense minute and three seconds of golden score.

Prior to the waza-ari win, Inbar Lanir of Israel and Ukrainian Yuliia Kurchenko secured the bronze medals.

Lanir's countrywoman Raz Hershko unleashed a brutal ippon to take the over-78kg title against Su Xin of China.

Su's team-mate Xu Shiyan joined her in the medal places with bronze alongside Karen Stevenson of The Netherlands.

Serbia's golden double on day one meant that they finished second in the overall standings.

The next IJF Grand Slam is scheduled to take place in the Turkish city of Antalya from March 31 to April 2.
