Britain won its first-ever snowboard cross mixed team World Championships gold in Bakuriani.

The International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) Freestyle Ski, Snowboard and Freeski World Championships in the Georgian city saw Charlotte Bankes and Huw Nightingale claim the top prize.

Austria bagged the silver medal while France settled for bronze.

The 21-year-old Nightingale was leading the course, with Merlin Surget of France, Jakob Dusek of Austria and Nick Baumgartner of the United States following closely.

However, Dusek managed to overtake Surget and Nightingale after gaining pace in the middle of the course.

After a point, even Surget managed to overtake Nightingale.

Among women, Bankes and Chloe Trespeuch of France started strongly before the former cruised to the lead.

Pia Zerkhold was fast enough to overtake Trespeuch in the roller section.

But that was not the end of it as the duo kept battling each other until the end, before the Austrian finally triumphed.

Taiga Hasegawa and two-time Winter X Games champion Takeru Otsuka of Japan aree leading the men's big air after the qualification round.

Samuel Jaroš of Slovakia finsihed in third place.

Among women, 16-year-old Mia Brookes of Britain, the youngest snowboard world champion, topped the big air qualification.

Annika Morgan of Germany and four-time World Championships medallist Miyabi Onitsuka of Japan finished second and third respectively.
