Australia won their third consecutive International Cricket Council (ICC) Women's T20 World Cup after defeating hosts South Africa in the final at Newlands in Cape Town.

An unbeaten 74 from Beth Mooney helped the Australians post 156 for six before a superb bowling performance helped them seal a 19-run victory.

The win means Australia now has six T20 World Cup titles, with the three-peat happening under the captaincy of Meg Lanning.

Alyssa Healy and Mooney started the innings well, reaching 36 runs together in five overs before the former was dismissed for 18 by Marizanne Kapp.

Ashleigh Gardner came in continued the good form, helping Australia to 73 for one before a clever ball from Chloe Tryon sent her packing for 29.

Grace Harris and skipper Lanning scored 10 runs each before falling to Nonlululeko Mlaba and Kapp, respectively.

The only in constant in all this was Mooney, who helped Australia set a target of 157.

While it was not a mammoth target, Australian bowlers rose to the occasion.

The only conceded 2 runs in the power play, with Darcie Brown scalping the crucial wicket of the in-form Tazmin Brits for only 10 runs.

Kapp was the next player to depart as South Africa were struggling at 46 for two in nine overs.

Suné Luus scored only two runs and walked back after being run out while Tryon departed for 25.

Brits’ co-opener Laura Wolvaardt was slow and steady in the chase, scoring 61 from 48 balls but her dismissal in the 17th over ended all hopes for the hosts, who finished with 137 for six in 20 overs.
