Ten potential section managers for Fiji took a course with relevant Oceania Sport Education Program (OSEP) qualifications in order to be selected for the 2023 Pacific Games in the Solomon Islands.

The Fiji Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee (FASANOC) held the OSEP course to prepare the section managers to lead the athletes in a four stage programme named design, develop, implement and review.

The course was held from February 20 to 24, where the Killiati Enterprise members Talemo Waqa, Deru Ramakita and KumOn Tarawa lead the training sessions.

"It is very important that potential team managers understand the standards Team Fiji has, the games charter and live up to the standards set out so that the NFs are better prepared or Games ready," said Tarawa.

Basketball, volleyball, chess, yachting, rugby and touch rugby representatives were all in attendance, aiming to be a part of the management team.

Team Fiji senior administrator Jane Niubalavu mentioned how the OSEP course had two different approaches.

"The first is to ensure the entourage accompanying the athletes understand their roles and responsibilities in supporting the athletes in the lead up and during Games times," said Niubalavu.

"The second is to ensure standardization (sic) across sports so that they apply the learning's for their own development and competitions both locally and overseas."

The 2023 Pacific Games is set to be held from November 19 to December 2, with 24 nations competing in 24 events.
